I write to you and senior colleagues in support of the call from Palestinian artists and cultural workers, the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI), to the Edinburgh International Festival (EIF) and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to reject funding from, and cooperation with, the Israeli government and its complicit institutions. Israel's repression of Palestinian life and lives does not spare Palestinian theatre or literary festivals and while warring on Palestinian culture the Israeli Government promotes cultural events as whitewashing through the Brand Israel programme.

We ask the EIF and EFF not to set its face against the more than a thousand UK artists, including many prominent Scots, and many thousands more internationally who refuse to cooperate with institutions complicit in Israeli crimes. We hope you will agree with the late Iain Banks to "convince Israel of its moral degradation and ethical isolation...by having nothing more to do with this outlaw state." We urge the EIF and EFF to join with the Edinburgh's Stills Gallery and Edinburgh International Film Festival which have each returned money to the Israeli Embassy, and refuse to be associated with Israeli State-funded and State-promoted artists.
